Antique Georgian Amitie Marquise Shaped Seed Pearl Memorial Ring with Platted Hair in Gold
SKU:RG1037
This ring is such an exquisite example of an antique memorial ring that was hand crafted in the Georgian era. This Georgian ring holds a lock of platted hair behind a glass cover in a marquise shape with the word "Amitie" inscribed on the plaque in the centre of this ring and a Seed Peal Halo in great condition. The word Amitie means friendship in french, during this period Male suitors were known to give pieces of jewellery like these as gifts of "friendship" to women they admired as courtship had strict rules and it wasn't the done thing to express token of love at such an early stage. It was also made at the time as a memorial piece, which was often created after a loved one had died, a lock of hair was taken and crafted into a piece of jewellery to be worn and kept safe always. This ring has a simple circular design and has been crafted from 14ct Yellow Gold. Such a lovely antique ring with so much history.
