Antique Victorian Gold Masonic Globe and Compass Folding Fob Pendant
This wonderful masonic fob pendant was hand crafted in Victorian England and is very unique to see in this style. It shows a compass and star on top a globe which opens to reveal a star insider and the folding out of the symbols themselves ending with the final links being a skull and bones. The inside star bears an English makers mark and 9ct as well as a registration number "No 31472" which translates to it having been made in 1885. Such an exquisite antique piece showing its age with the globe being largely dented all the way round fully crafted in 9ct Gold with a clasp that is slightly off at one side but very secure and has a snap close, lots of wear and character in this well loved Victorian piece of history.

Victorian (1837 - 1901)
The Victorian era lasted the full reign of Queen Victoria which saw vast expansion of the British Empire. Over her 64 year reign we saw changes in socialism, industry, fashion and jewellery, and women became the primary jewel wearers. There are three sub-periods in this era, the first being the 'Romantic Period' which reflected the Queens love for her husband, and the adoration shown from her nation. Manufacturing developments meant that by the end of this period jewellery was no longer made solely by hand. Following this, the time frame named the 'Grand Period' emerged where there was a revival of ancient jewelry styles, this period also began with much death and war which increased the demand for mourning jewellery. By the 1880's diamond pieces were very popular due to their discovery in South Africa in 1867. The final years of Victoria's reign, the 'Aesthetic Period', jewellery became lighter and smaller as women became an integral part of the workforce. The fashion trendsetters at this time were actors and actresses as the entertainment industry boomed.
